Dioptase, when it came out in the mid 1980s to the world, was ironically called "poor man's emerald" at the time. How times have changed! Great dioptase specimens are more expensive than most emeralds, today. Fine crystals with this color, this surface translucency, this size (to 1.1 cm), are often priced in the tens of thousands of dollars. Well, that is true, and this is one that is so close to being orth bigger money, but it has some small damages throughout, which make it impressive at a distance but damaged up closer - what we sometimes call "the killer bargain" because it looks like a killer, but comes at a lower price.
