Dioptase

Dioptase from Tsumeb, from the mid-1980 finds here, still sets a standard for the most lustrous and sparkling of all dioptase crystals of quality. This is a large display piece with an absolutely TOP quality sparkle and shimmer to it, the best possible luster. The crystals are not the biggest, though they do reach 5mm, but the sparkle is amazing - like sugar on a cookie. The whole plate shimmers, and it is so brightly reflective that it is hard to focus the eyes on it in lighting that is too strong (like sunlight). It is one of the few plates of this size, that is truly undamaged. For that matter, it is not a simple plate, but actually has some three-dimensionality, and is more an undulating surface with rolling hills underneath the green carpet - a depth and texture beneath the sparkling drapery of dioptase. Donated by Daniel Trinchillo/Fine Minerals International. Valued quite fairly, we think, at $9500-12500, this is one of the most visually impactful dioptase specimens in the size and price range. It also comes with a custom lucite base for upright display, to maximize the surface area shown in a case.
