Item Description
Dioptase is not often found in fine crystallized display specimens, and considering its rather simple chemistry, one would expect to see the species from more than just a handful of localities in fine representations. The famous Tsumeb mine is the most well known locality for Dioptase, but the neighboring Kaokoveld Plateau in Namibia has recently produced some excellent Dioptase specimens. The crystals on this specimen exhibit great emerald green color (impossible to replicate in photos) which is what draws collectors to the species. The crystals are in very good condition overall, with decent luster, sharp faces, and are even slightly gemmy when backlit. The crystals are associated with a small amount of an unknown blue mineral (most likely another Copper Silicate such as Plancheite or Shattuckite). A good representative specimen from this well known modern-day Dioptase producing region.
