Dioptase has been found in hundreds of world localities, but only a few world localities have produced truly superb quality crystallized specimens. Going back to the late 2000s, there were several finds producing exciting pieces in the Pool Department of Republic of the Congo (not DR Congo). The best of these specimens show great color, with larger sized crystals and EXCELLENT gemminess. This particular specimen features sharp, lustrous, well-formed, trigonal rich emerald green color Dioptase crystals forming an attractive overall specimen. Small spherical "balls" of brown-grey colored Goethite can be seen on the piece as well There are a few contacts here and there, but the crystals are good sized, richly colored and even gemmy when backlit! The luster is very good for the material as well. The largest crystal measures 1.3 cm long. We hope to see more of this SUPERB quality Dioptase from Kimbedi, but nothing has come out for several years it seems. With the price of Tsumeb Dioptase specimens rising daily, this is a great opportunity to snag a "Tsumeb"-like specimen of this species for a fraction of the price.
