Item Description
This strange and rare variety of Diopside (or other Pyroxene) was originally its own species, and described as specifically showing prominent {001} parting. The label with this specimen says that it's from Wurlitz near Hof in the Fichtel Mountains (German: Fichtelgebirge), but I can't find a report of the material from this locality. The only locality in Germany that I can find for the material is Talcum works (Scheruhn quarry), Franconia, Bavaria. With that said, this material is unusual and seldom seen on the market. A mass of a almost "Mica"-esque moss-green colored Diallage shows a somewhat laminated form with an odd luster Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5408). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). A strange and unusual reference specimen of this hard to find material from Germany.
