Item Description
An incredibly hard to find specimen from the Jaipur Division in Rajasthan, India featuring a group of sharp, well-formed, lustrous, deep green colored prismatic Diopside crystals free of matrix. I've only seen a couple of these in the past 25+ years. They are incredibly distinctive, and do not resemble any other Diopsides I've seen from any other locality. For the most part, the crystal are nearly opaque, but with strong backlighting, you can get a bit of color to show through on the edges. They seem to have an odd swirling mix of greenish and black hues. No real damage, and a great piece to add to a thumbnail collection. This is not the typical species that we associated with India, and considering how rare these are on the market, you probably won't get a chance to buy another like it for a long time. Priced at $500 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10944). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
