Item Description
A seldom seen Russian Diopside specimen featuring soft "water" green colored crystals and crystal groups which are intermixed with cream colored crystals of an unidentified mineral (possibly Prehnite or a Feldspar species?) and intermixed with rather thick, well-defined, sharp, dark chrome green colored crystals of Clinochlore ("Chlorite") on host rock matrix. We've labeled the piece as coming from Bazhenovskoe as the Diopside matches other pieces we've seen from the locality in terms of crystal habit and color, along the Clinochlore crystals which are similar to other's we've seen from this locality. A hard to find specimen of this old classic material from the Urals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8173). There is a label accompanying the piece that states it's from "Slatout" and Kay's label states that it's from "Miass", which is a general term used years ago for a part of the Ural Mountains, but is not a legitamite locality. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
