Item Description

A lovely display specimen of Diopside from the famed Kokcha Valley in Afghanistan, home of the famous Lapis Lazuli specimens. Diopside specimens are fairly uncommon from this area, but they form in the same marble as the Lapis, Afghanite and other minerals found in the area. This piece has a notably lighter green color than others we've had in the past, as its more of a lime green hue. The piece features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous 2.5 cm crystal with a few smaller accenting Diopsides, nestled into off-white marble matrix. The main Diopside is in good condition, though there are a few imperfections that can be seen in the naked eye. I love the position of the crystal on the matrix, creating a very presentable overall piece. A fairly hard to find example, especially with this color.
From the collection of Gerry Morvell (#GM1157A).
