There are certain gems that are almost exclusively associated with a single locality. Examples include Tanzanite and Red Beryl, and I would throw gem quality Diaspore into the mix. Although the material is found in a few places in the world, the most famous material comes from the Selçuk District in Turkey. This stone is a lovely pale straw colored, "Pear" cut gem with nearly eye clean clarity. It's hard to find good gem Diaspores today because the entire locality has been purchased as a large commercial operation, so the supply is under control by a single operator now.
