Item Description

This specimen is labeled as coming from the Büyükçamlik Pit on Büyükçamlik Hill in the Ilbir Mountains, but I can't find a listing for this locality on mindat, so I don't know if the name has changed or if it this information has become erroneous. Additionally the label attached to the base of the piece mentions a locality called "805 Yalagan", which I can't find on mindat either. With that said, we've left it only as coming from the Muğla Province of Turkey. It is a very gemmy, beautiful yellowish-green colored twin with glassy faces on all sides. The twin is unfortunately not complete, as one half is broken off, but you can see the twinning place where the two crystals met is still intact. These famous Diaspore crystals are certainly the finest examples of the species ever found with superb color and gemminess, and they often show a color change, which is the case for this piece as the yellow-green hue (best seen in sunlight) will change to a sandy-beige color under halogen lighting.
