Item Description
A VERY RARE 15.80 carat Framesite Diamond from one of the world's greatest diamond mines. The famous Premier Mine of South Africa, is where the world's largest diamond was found in 1905, the famed 3.106.75 carat Cullinan Diamond. A Framesite diamond is a variety of Bort, a variety of black diamond from South Africa showing minute brilliant points possibly due to included diamonds (visible in specimen) (MINDAT). There is black carbon on the back side. Specimens are rarely available from any worldwide locality since they are mined industrially and turned into powder. They are used as an abrasive and in rock drill bits. Older material with the Ward's label from the David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
