Diamond (rare matrix)

Item Description

This is a sharp, highly lustrous 6mm-across diamond crystal from the classic locality of the Diamantina River in Minas Gerais, Brazil, a site renowned for its diamond-bearing sands. This particular diamond is unusually sharp and equant for the locality, as most crystals from this region tend to be more flattened in shape. The diamond is elegantly perched on a large, poorly sorted quartz pebble-cobble conglomerate, characteristic of the Diamantina River. The specimen has been trimmed to a thumbnail size and has been professionally confirmed by a prominent lab to be entirely natural, with no glue or repairs. These diamonds emerged from Brazil about 50 years ago and some few have come recently but not many, making this a rare and exceptional piece with both historical and aesthetic value.
