Item Description
I think Diamonds are one of the most ubiquitous minerals in the world. While most people associated them with faceted gems and jewelry, Diamond forms beautiful crystals from many world localities, and well-formed example are highly sought after on the market. Diamonds naturally occur in all colors of the rainbow (including black) and are obviously the hardest substance in the mineral world, which combined with their impressive refractive properties make them the perfect candidates for jewelry. Here we have a nice sharp, well-formed cubic "floater" crystal of Diamond with a silvery hue and a slightly reddish-golden hue in the center when backlit. While the crystal is cubic in habit, if you look closely, you can see there are dozens of tiny modifying faces. The faces have good luster and the crystal looks beautiful under magnification. The crystal shows good internal translucency when backlit. A nice representative Diamond from the Miba Mine in DR Congo, one of the most prolific Diamond producing nations in the world. This piece would make a wonderful addition to any collection, or might possibly be a match for a cut stone to create a wonderful rough and cut set !
