Devilline (rare old classic) (ex Josef Vajdak)

Item Description

A classic old-time specimen of Devilline (formerly Herrengrundite) from the historic discovery at Špania Dolina (formerly Herrengrund) in Slovakia. The finest specimens of Devilline ever seen have come from this locality, and even though the species was named after the locality, the listed type locality for the species (according to mindat.org) is actually Cornwall, England. The label accompanying the piece states that Špania Dolina is the type locality for the species, so if anybody can shed some light on this confusion, please let us know. This piece is an important small cabinet specimen, dating back to late 1800s featuring rich blue-green colored micro crystals of Devilline associated with an unknown blue mineral (possibly something like Camérolaite or Posnjakite) on host rock matrix. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. Don't pass this up as specimens of Devilline from this classic locale are rarely seen in today's market.
