Descloizite (unique style)

The famed Berg Aukas Mine in northern Namibia is famous for producing what are unquestionably the greatest specimens of Descloizite ever found. The size and quality of these crystals is truly impressive for species that is not often found in fine crystallized examples. This piece is a beautiful small cabinet feature excellent, sharp, well-formed, semi-metallic crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm which show varying habits that range from lustrous tabular prisms to more of a matte appearance on the terminations with a soft silvery-grey hue. The crystals almost have a "scepter" like formation where they are narrow at the base and then expand into more robust blocky forms on the terminations. Fine quality all around, no major damage I can see, and this particular style is RARE for this locality. We've done our best to illustrate the crystals in the photos, but it's one of those pieces that you truly need to see in person, and honestly it's best to look at the crystals with a loupe to get the full scope of their unique morphology. From the collection of Richard ("Rich") Andrew Kosnar (1946-2007), the well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, who was the namesake for the phosphate species Kosnarite.
