Item Description

There aren't too many localities that produce well-crystallized display specimens of Descloizite, but there is no doubt that the finest piece in the world were found at the famous Berg Aukus Mine in Namibia. These world-class examples are truly superior both in their crystallization and often size to any other pieces of Descloizite ever found. These specimens have set the standard of excellence for this zinc analogue of Mottramite. It is because of Berg Aukus that we know how good Descloizite crystals can actually get. This miniature sized piece features excellent individual crystals, which are notably sharp and distinct, with a flattened almost "chisel"-shaped habit measuring with a dark brown hue, and a slight secondary coating in select spots. No major damage that I can find, but there are a separation marks near the lower portion that I can see with the naked eye. Very attractive and certainly highly displayable. Classic material, and not nearly as common on the market as they were 30-40 years ago.
From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
