This item is part of a special benefit auction for the Rice Museum of Rocks & Minerals (ricenorthwestmuseum.org). Items are either deaccessions from the museum's collection or were donated by generous supporters listed below.

The Berg Aukas Mine was developed on a sizable lead-zinc-vanadium deposit in northern Namibia and has produced the best of species for this mineral, occurring in several distinct habits of which this sharply crystallized and lustrous form is the most rare. It is a superb Descloizite for the locality that consists of an elongated cluster of big, chunky, wedge-shaped crystals to 1.5 cm exhibiting dramatic form. These bronze colored, wedge-shaped orthorhombic crystals are well formed with razor sharp edges and constitutes the less common form from Berg Aukas compared to the spear-point crystals that are more typical for this lead-zinc-vanadate from this locality. This piece has great composition and balance. It is something that is a bit of a stumper, to look at it at first glance, because it is so unusual.
