Descloizite

The Berg Aukas Mine of Namibia has produced the world's finest descloizite specimens and this is an excellent, rich and sculptural piece composed of 100% descloizite crystals. Spearpoints of highly lustrous, metallic blackish-brown crystals (from a secondary coating) cover both sides and top of this piece. These crystals are translucent, coffee-colored on the edges, under bright light. The contacted base, uneffected by the overgrowth, reveals bright rust-red crystals. This striking piece is essentially pristine, with only trivial periphery wear and displays well from all sides and angles. A very highly representative example of the species and famous locality, which closed in 1978. From a museum collection.
