Item Description
Delafossite is a rare Cu-Fe oxide and is well-known from the famous Cole Mine at Bisbee. Specimens of this richness and excellence, though, are RARE. Clusters of LARGE, splendent metallic, black platy crystals are richly strewn across the gossan matrix. The plates reach 1.5 cm! Scattered pods of granular wine-red cuprite are a classic accessory. Outstanding, and from the Evan Jones Collection and previously in the Jack Schissler Collection (he was active in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly, and self collected much of his material in his various roles at the mine). Evan is currently one of the largest collectors of Bisbee material and has sold off a few of his duplicates in the last few years. This is a major example of the species, from two very highly provenanced collections. Valued at $1500-2000. A MUST for the Bisbee collector!
