Dawsonite with Nordstrandite (ex Francesco Bedogne Collection)

A beautiful example of the rare carbonate Dawsonite from the famous locality at Terlano. The species was named in 1874 after Sir John William Dawson of McGill University in Canada, who first collected the mineral. Gorgeous "sprays" of needle-thin white acicular crystals of Dawsonite can be seen on the display side of the specimen associated with white Nordstrandite (according to the label) and minor Chalcedony. A hard to find specimen of this classic material from Italy. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
