Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Davidite from the famous St. Peters Dome District (Cheyenne District) in Colorado. Davidite is a rare earth oxide and belongs to the Crichtonite group. The species "Davidite" no longer exists and has been recategorized into Davidite-(Ce) and Davidite-(La) - (Davidite-(Y) is now a hypothetical mineral at this point in time). This is one of the VERY few specimens of Davidite from the United States that I have seen, and it is possible that the piece may not be Davidite, but another member of the Crichtonite group. Member(s) of the group are reported from St. Peters Dome (see http://www.mindat.org/min-29190.html). The piece has not been analyzed to the best of my knowledge, but a hand-written label from Rich Kosnar can be seen on the reverse side of the piece.
