Item Description

A vein of snow-white, porcelanous datolite cuts diagonally across a weighty matrix of unknown brown crystalline rock on this sliced and polished, old-time specimen from the famous Copper Country. There is even a bit of copper visible near the bottom of the datolite vein. This was obviously a prized specimen as the older, faded label from the Dennis Mullane Collection has a $50 price. Not cheap for the 1950s or 60s! Datolite is a highly prized species from the Keweenaw and seldom do you see examples, such as this. Matrix datolites are VERY rare, as they are usually found in nodules.
