Superlative and sculptural large datolite and calcite from one of the famous mines at Dalnegorsk. A fantastic, glassy, translucent, stepped-growth calcite scalenohedron with oxide inclusions is dramatically perched atop a dense intergrown cluster of very glassy, translucent, pretty mint-green, large prismatic datolite crystals accent with striking areas of yellow-green color. The datolite prisms reach a very large for the locale 4.1 cm. The exposed portion of the calcite in the front is 3.6 cm, BUT a major surprise and bonus is found the back. Here this unique looking calcite is nearly doubly terminated and is 7.1 cm tall! The amazing preferential oxide inclusion form on the glassy crystal resembles the famous Calcite and Goethite "skunks" from Uruguay. Probably from the well-known Bor Pit. Ex Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and assembled several world-class collections before passing away in 2017. Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $185, for free.
