Item Description

The Datolite crystals from Lane's Quarry in Massachusetts are arguably the best from any locality in the United States. Their superior size, quality and gemminess are instantly recognizable to experienced collectors. Sometimes you will find crystals from this locality with gem areas that are clean enough to facet stones. Many years ago there was a discovery of TRANSPARENT crystals from this locality, which produced some of the finest faceted Datolites known from this locality (see https://www.mindat.org/photo-143278.html). This rough and cut set features an impressive 1.72 ct "Round Brilliant" cut Datolite with a very pale greenish-yellow hue and slight inclusions. It's paired up with a fine quality, very sharp, euhedral, well-formed single crystal to create this excellent "rough and cut" set. The quality of both the stone and the crystal are excellent, and you'd be hard pressed to get your hands on a set like this, as both the crystals and especially the cut stones are disappearing from the market these days. From the collection of Dr. James "Jim" Houran, noted thumbnail mineral collector, gemstone collector and a speaker at our annual Dallas Mineral Symposium. Jim is the Managing Director of AETHOS Consulting Group. He's a 25-year veteran in applied psychological research and a published expert on peak performance, online testing and interpersonal and organizational compatibility.
