Datolite (gemmy crystals)

Dalnegorsk, Russia has for decades been one of the great specimens producers in the world. This large and impressive locality had provided collectors with a slew of fine quality crystallized display specimens, including what are arguably the best Datolites ever found. Typically, Datolite crystals are green or yellow, but the crystals on this specimen are notably colorless, which is rare in my experience from this locality. This is a fantastic cabinet display specimen featuring superb, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, colorless monoclinic crystals measuring up to 3.2 cm associated with light brown Siderite. Very little damage (a few nicks can be seen) and quite aesthetic. A very nice example of this older (this piece probably dates back to the 1990s) material, seldom seen in today's market. Priced in the inventory at $1,600. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#673 R), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
