Item Description

The famous Prospect Park Quarry is one of the most significant trap rock localities on the East Coast of the United States. It is one of the most impressive, and under appreciated zeolite (and associated minerals) producing localities in the world. This quarry has produced some amazing piece in the last 100 years, but is sadly now closed and will never yield anymore specimens. This is a good display piece hosting good sized, blocky, somewhat gemmy, light green, crystals of Datolite with gemmy colorless modified crystals of Calcite (erroneously labeled as Analcime) on basalt matrix. The largest Datolite crystal measures 1.8 cm across, which is good sized for the locality. Some of the Datolite have an interesting preferential deposition of select faces, giving them an almost "striped" appearance. Most of the crystals are in good shape, but there are a few spots of damage here and there. Still a good overall example of these beautiful specimens from this historic locale. From the collection of Gerry Morvell.
