Item Description
The top Danburite crystals from Charcas are inarguably the finest examples of the species ever found. The vast majority of these crystals are found either as loose singles, or rarely clusters comprising a few intergrown crystals, but matrix specimens are exceedingly rare. This piece is not only a superb and incredibly hard to find matrix specimen, but the matrix itself is jet-black Sphalerite, which is incredibly hard to find in my experience with this material. Many sharp, well-formed, lustrous, GEM/gemmy, colorless, thin prismatic crystals of Danburite can be seen on the upper portion of the specimen measuring up to 2.2 cm. Most of the Danburites are in good shape, but there are some rough spots, so not every Danburite is pristine. It's a showy display specimen and looks great in the hand, and in a display case. If you collect Mexican minerals or you just appreciate rare examples of classic material like this, don't miss out on this beautiful and singular example. We don't have another like it to offer, and you'd be hard-pressed finding another one for sale the market.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#111 Mx), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
