Item Description

The iconic gemmy Danburites from Charcas are Mexican classics. They are without question the finest examples of the species ever found, as they are notably larger and gemmier than most examples, and it helps that a good quantity of them have been found over the years. This specimen is a quite glassy, well-formed, beautifully striated crystal with a textbook, chisel termination and a colorless interior. The crystal is essentially pristine save the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. Really good quality and size for the species and the locality. The top most portion of the crystal is incredibly gemmy, and it's a superior example of what have to be the finest crystallized Danburites in the world! Valued at $750.
The specimen comes from the collection of the well-known mineral collector and rancher Jeffries Rukin "Rukie" Jelks (1927-2014) with a former dealer label from Peter Megaw. You can read Jelks' bio at the following link: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/jelksrukin/
