Item Description

Cylindrite is certainly an interesting mineral species for the simple reason that it forms in cylindrical-shaped crystals, which is incredibly rare in nature. This very rare lead, iron, tin, antimony sulfosalt is not found in many places in the world, and the best pieces are those from Bolivia. Arguably the most desirable specimens are from the type locality, like this specimen. This large thumbnail / toenail sized piece is a near solid group of silvery-grey metallic Cylindrite crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm on very minor matrix. If you collect rarities or minerals from the type locality, don't miss out on this one. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8795). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
