Item Description
This is an exceptional and rich of thumbnail specimen of one of the most unique species in all the mineral kingdom. Cylindrite is a rare lead, iron, tin, antimony sulfosalt that forms in "cylinder" or "tube" shaped crystals, hence the name. This specimen is special, in that the lustrous crystals are unusually fat and are very aesthetically placed on solid cylindrite matrix. Most such pieces have acicular or narrow cylinders. A great opportunity for any collector to own a species rarely seen for sale in today"s market, epecially in this rare quality. Incidentally, this species belongs to the only group of minerals that forms in naturally "round" or "cylindrical" shaped crystals. I have not seen any new specimens of cylindrite on the market in several years, and the pieces from Oruro are certainly among the best in the world. Older material. Ex Harvard and Schlichter Collections.
