Item Description

This is a rich of specimen of one of the most unique species in all the mineral kingdom. Cylindrite is a lead, iron, tin, antimony sulfosalt that forms in "cylinder" or "tube" shaped crystals, hence the name. This specimen is especially nice considering that it is loaded with crystals. The longest crystal measures 2.9 cm, which is BIG for the species. The mine at Poopo is the type locality for the species, and the world's supply of good specimens have come from this mine. A great opportunity for any collector to own a species rarely seen for sale in today's market. Incidentally, this species belongs to the only group of minerals that forms in naturally "round" or "cylindrical" shaped crystals. I have not seen any new specimens of Cylindrite on the market in several years, and the pieces from Poopo are certainly among the best in the world. This piece came to us from an old East Coast collection with a classic old label from legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the piece has Ford's Wall Street address, the label dates between 1947-1956. The piece also comes with a label from the famous Foote Mineral Company in Philadelphia. Don't miss out on this great, rich rarity with wonderful documentation.
