Cylindrite ex Kidwell

Out of nearly 5,800 mineral species this is the ONLY mineral with a cylindrical crystal habit! Cylindrite is an uncommon lead tin iron antimony sulfosalt and this piece is from the type locality at Poopo, Bolivia and is from the Al Kidwell collection! Massive dark gray ore hosts splendent, diverging, dark gray crystals of Cylindrite to nearly 3 cm in length. Crystals are growing at a steep angle relative to the bounding ore margins. These "cylinders" are of quite good size for the species and it is a very rich piece overall. Although many have come out, this one is very good and is a great display specimen. These are very difficult to obtain on the market today. From the diverse and historic collection of one of the great field collectors and mineralogists of mid-1900s Texas, Albert Kidwell of Houston (1919-2008), after whom the mineral Kidwellite is named.
