Item Description

Here we have a rich and fine quality small cabinet sized specimen of one of the most beautiful mineral species from any Arizona locality. Cyanotrichite is a rare copper aluminum sulfate and well-crystallized display specimens from this prestigious locality are few and far between. This particular was collected in the mid 1960's in the Grandview mine, which existed in the Grand Canyon. The mine is long defunct, but when specimens were being recovered, they were some of the most incredible, and brightly colored specimens coming out of Arizona. This specimen is filled with dozens upon dozens of excellent, bright blue color, acicular (needle-like) radiating aggregates or "sprays" of Cyanotrichite associated with dark green Brochantite, lighter green Malachite, pale blue Chalcoalumite plus minor rich blue Azurite. The needles of Cyanotrichite are very delicate, but are equally stunning to view. You can see that we've provided some great macro photos of what these crystals look like up close. Please note that there have been NO specimens from this locality available on the market for a very long time, and a piece like this is certainly rare and desirable for its richness and overall quality. This is a great opportunity to own a unique and attractive species from one of the more interesting localities in the United States.
Formerly in the collection of Richard A. Kosnar, the well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 31.1.6 AZ.1; 8797. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
