Cyanotrichite (old locale)

Cyanotrichite is a copper aluminum sulfate and well-crystallized specimens like this one are few and far between. It was found in the mid-1960s in the Grandview Mine which was located in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The mine is long defunct, but when specimens were being recovered, they were some of the most incredible, and brightly colored specimens from Arizona. Hollow areas in this his specimen are filled with dozens of excellent, bright medium blue, rounded, radial aggregates composed of acicular (needle-like) of Cyanotrichite associated with medium green Brochantite and lighter green Malachite, especially around the periphery. The tufts of Cyanotrichite are very delicate and stunning to view in hand or with a loupe! This is a great cabinet piece of this beautiful mineral!
