Item Description
Here we have a fantastic association specimen from the famed Shinkolobwe Mine, featuring the incredibly rare lead uranium oxide species, Curite, which was named for Pierre Curie, who along with this wife Marie Sklodowska-Curie, won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1903 for their work studying radioactivity. Both Pierre and Marie had minerals named in their honor. This piece features fantastic glowing orange-red color crystal sprays of Curite, which comprise very thin "needle"-like crystals which are associated with orange-yellow colored Kasolite along with thin tabular crystals of yellow Dewindtite, plus green Metatorbernite. The crystals are micros, and best seen with a loupe or under a microscope, and we've provided photos taken with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality. Additionally, this piece comes with a couple of printed photos of the Curite crystals, showing their superb quality and visceral beauty. These specimens are incredibly hard to find on the market, especially with multiple species present, and the cherry on top is that this piece is from the type locality for both Curite and Dewindtite. If you collect rarities, or minerals from this famous locality, don't miss out on this wonderful example, as we likely won't have another one to offer anytime soon. From the collection of Wouter Van Tichelen of Belgium (#20190309).
