Cuprite variety Chalcotrichite is RARE from any New Mexico locality. Striking sculptural arboresent dendrites of blood-red Chalcotrichite microcrystals dramatically and colorfully cover several sides of the large blocky porphyry matrix. The Cook Collection label lists Harley, New Mexico. There is no Harley, New Mexico. However, Hurley, New Mexico is very near the famous large Chino open pit copper mine, from which the piece undoubtedly came from. MINDAT shows only four examples of the species in the New Mexico Photo Gallery for Chalcotrichite, two from the Chino Mine. We feel very lucky to have picked up the large collection of Bill and Anne Cook of Cleveland, recently. It is a tribute to their long efforts, how many interesting minerals and old localities were preserved and carefully labelled so you can see them now. Bill and Anne collected for at least 60 years. VERY RARE and excellent large New Mexico Chalcotrichite. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
