Cuprite (var: Chalcotrichite) (RARE locality specimen) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

I've never seen a single specimen from this obscure copper mine in Queensland. The Dorothy Mine in Mungana (not to be confused with the Dorothy Mine in Meekatharra in Western Australia) has a modest listing on mindat.org, and with that said, Cuprite / Chalcotrichite isn't even reported. If anybody has some more information as to the origin or validity of this specimen, please let us know. A beautiful cluster of fibrous, bright red, metallic, "needles" of Chalcotrichite (the acicular variety of Cuprite) are associated with minor white / colored Cerussite, Calcite and blue-green Aurchalcite. Lots of fun to view with a loupe or under the microscope. A really cool piece for any fan of secondary ore minerals, micro minerals or Australian minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#343).
