Item Description

This piece is accompanied by a label that says "Detroit Mining Co., Morenci" for the locality, but it doesn't say specifically which mine, so it could be from the Detroit Mine specifically or one of the other properties owned by the Detroit Mining Group. With that said, Cuprite specimens from Morenci are hard to find on the market, and this piece is a nice example featuring dozens of gemmy, blood red cubic crystals measuring up to about 3 mm sitting on massive Cuprite matrix. The crystals are scattered all over the piece, some of the surface, other nestled into vugs. The crystals are best viewed up close with magnification. A good example of this relatively hard to find material for any fan of copper-bearing minerals, secondary ore species, or minerals from Arizona/Morenci.
