Item Description

A superb and extremely rich cuprite specimen with the rare combination of crystal forms: cubic; modified cubic; and cuboctahedral habits all on one piece! The piece is essentially solid cuprite, with just a bit of botryoidal hematite. The splendent metallic crystals, to 7 mm, glow cherry-red with gemminess, when frontlit or backlit. A bit of bruising is noted, but certainly has negligible impact on this historic old-timer from a most collectible locale. This piece was almost certainly collected in the early to mid-1800s. Ex Evan Jones Collection (which had a well known English suite for decades). Valued at $1000-1200 and worth it, for quality and richness.
