Cuprite - rare locality!

An outstanding example of rare, specimen-grade Cuprite crystals from the famous Chuquicamata Mine of Chile. This showy piece is richly covered with lustrous, deep wine-red crystals to 1.2 mm. Interestingly, the crystals are such a deep color that they do not transmit light, but under a good light they still show their cherry-red color. Nearly all of the major Cuprites are excellent condition, with just a very small amount of micro dings and bruising. This is a SUPERB Cuprite from this very well-known locale, noted for very rare copper minerals like Natrochalcite and Krohnkite. This is one of the very best Cuprites I have seen from here. For some reason, copper minerals and copper itself just didn’t really stay around in this deposit, and altered away. This would make an important addition to any Chuquicamata suite.
