Cuprite (rare faceted stone)

Cuprite is only found in gem quality material in a few world localities, and the finest and largest gems came from Namibia (specifically the Onganja Mine) many years ago. This attractive "oval brilliant" cut gem has the classic metallic appearance on the surface, but when it's backlit, it shows the highly desirable and alluring blood red color for which Cuprite is known. Faceted Cuprites are a great rarity to be sure, because the material is a real pain to cut and polish. No rare stone collection is complete without a good Cuprite in it. The rough from which this stone was cut was mined about 50 years ago. A beautiful gem of this well known and now hard to find material.
