Cuprite octahedrons (Soregaroli Coll.)

Mashamba West cuprite specimens are some of the finest in the world and this is an excellent small cabinet. Lustrous, sharp, metallic, deep ruby-red, octahedral crystals, to 1.1 cm, showing gorgeous cherry-red internal transluscency when backlit are nicely clustered/scattered on the copper oxide-coated matrix. The crystals have classic form and are beautiful examples of the species. All of the many primary crystals are pristine. This piece is from the late 1980s finds at this famous mine. These are no longer coming out, for a number of reasons having to do as much with the society and politics there, as the actual mines themselves. Valued at $800-1000.
