Cuprite (large gemmy crystal)

Item Description

Unlike the Cuprite crystals from Onganja in Namibia, the Cuprites from the Katanga Copper Crescent in DR Congo are rarely very large. This is one of the largest single Cuprite crystals we've seen from the area. This robust crystal is predominantly octahedral in habit, but some small dodecahedral modifications can be seen along the edges. When backlit, the upper portion glows with an intense blood-red hue! While this is not a complete crystal, it's a still a very impressive and dramatic Cuprite that dwarfs most other examples we've had to offer over the years from Katanga. A light dusting of soft blue-green colored Chrysocolla makes for a nice touch. If you're a fan of copper minerals, secondary ore minerals, or specimens from DR Congo, this is a very worthwhile piece to add to your collection.
