Item Description

This gem is from a new discovery that was made in late 2022. This beautifully colorful and alluring stone was found in the same copper-producing area where the blue Opal gems are being mined. The stone is essentially a large colorless, "Oval" Cabochon" of Quartz, but you can see there are vivid red inclusions of Cuprite inside, creating a dazzling effect. The Cuprites are crystalline, and almost look dendritic under magnification. Their strong blood red hue is due to the fact that they haven't been exposed to oxygen, as Cuprite will darker as it oxidizes, but if they are suspended in Quartz like this, they maintain their strong color. A unique gem that would fill a spot in any gem collection, and I'm sure virtually all of you don't have one of these in your collections, as they were mined very recently.
