Item Description

A fantastic thumbnail specimen of Cuprite from the famous Chuquicamata Mine, featuring several fine quality, well-formed crystals measuring up to 6 mm on edge free of matrix. The combination of the cubic, dodecahedral and octahedral faces make for some really eye-catching crystals. With strong backlighting, you can see a deep blood red hue inside the crystals. Fine quality all around with no major damage that I can see with the naked eye. It's important to stress that Cuprite is HARD TO FIND from this mine, and a lot of it isn't even crystallized. I think this piece could be the best thumbnail of Cuprite that we've ever had to offer from this world renowned locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7915). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
