Item Description
Please note that this specimen was erroneously labeled as coming from the 79 Mine, but has been confirmed as coming from the Ray Mine. Cuprite specimens from Ray are some of the best crystallized examples of the species from any mine in Arizona. Even though the crystals can be smaller, they are remarkably attractive showing intricate and alluring morphology. This piece hosts very fine quality, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, deep blood-red colored cubic crystals, with eye-catching overgrowths, creating a geometrically dazzling viewing experience under magnification, sitting on Goethite on matrix. The crystals measure to about 4 mm, so it's best to look at them either with a loupe or under the microscope, and we've provided several close-up photos to illustrate their beauty. A wonderful specimen of this classic material.
This piece belonged to Richard Hronik and his widow Joyce gave it as a gift to George in August of 2009.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 411 AZ.6; 8808. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
