Item Description

The historic copper producing region around Rudabanya dates back to medieval times, and has produced some iconic and well known mineral specimens. The Cuprites from the Andrassy I mine are reminiscent of those from Onganja, Namibia where blood red Cuprite has been coated by oxidized secondary minerals, like Malachite. This piece is a great representative specimen of this beloved material featuring rich red Cuprite in the core, surrounded by what I think is Malachite, but under magnification, I can see the crystals are a very rich chrome green color and quite gemmy, which is not common for the species. This is a great overall association specimen of this classic old time material from Hungary.
