Item Description
Milpillas has been a very popular location for great specimens over the last 15 years. When it comes to Cuprites from Milpillas, they were difficult to find to begin with. For all intents and purposes, the main mine is no longer producing any more specimens. This small cabinet specimen is an almost solid mass of deep red metallic Cuprite with a silvery metallic luster that changes to an intense blood-red hue when the crystals are backlit. Individual crystals are not terribly easy to isolate, but I can find a few that measure at least 3 mm. This is a fine quality Cuprite, and despite some roughness in spots, it's still a good example of these elusive specimens. I love these pieces and because so few were found, they don't get the recognition they deserve for their good quality and color. If you're a fan of secondary copper minerals or specifically Mexican minerals, be sure to pick this one up.
