Cuprite from Milpillas is NOT so common, not nearly so as the other copper minerals Malachite and Azurite which we saw a flood of during the producing years of this locality. It will always remain notable, world class, and important for Azurite and Malachite. So few fine cuprite was found, however, that most of us have never even seen a good one in person. This is a fine display specimen with sharp crystals to 1.4 cm, "frozen" into the matrix. It is an unusual style that I cannot recall seeing from other locations, but typical of several pockets from Milpillas from around 2012-2014. Note that these were found after the most productive years for the more common species, as they started delving deeper into the chalcocite orebody that lay underneath the majority of Azurite pockets. This specimen also comes with a custom lucite base from a previous collection. Valued $1500-plus.
