Item Description
Cuprian smithsonite is rare from the famous Broken Hill deposit. Three sides of the vuggy, sculptural matrix are covered with glassy, pistachio-green, smithsonite rhombs. The supremely glassy, transparent to translucent, cyclically-twinned, cerussite crystals, to 1.4 cm, scattered about make for a very showy, excellent and rare combination piece from this famous locale. A bit of bruising, mainly to the cerussites, is noted, but is only a very modest detraction to the large overall display face of this rare combination specimen, that displays well without aid. Old material, from an African collection we purchased years ago. With the cerussite, it would be easy to claim this was from Tsumeb and make it twice the value, but the matrix is a little off, and it did have an older dealer label noting this correct, also desirable though less famous, locale.Valued $1000
